Alfa Financial Software Holdings ($ALFA) Brief

Alfa Financial Software Holdings (LSE: ALFA) provides enterprise software and cloud hosting solutions for the global asset finance and leasing industry.

Its flagship product, Alfa Systems (now in version 6), acts as the operational “heart and lungs” for tier-1 banks (e.g., Société Générale, large US banks), auto manufacturers/captives (e.g., Mercedes-Benz), and independent lenders.

The platform manages the entire lifecycle of complex financing. This includes front-end originations and workflow decisioning all the way to middle-office contract servicing, physical asset depreciation, and back-office statutory lease accounting.

Because of the high operational risk of replacing back-office lease-accounting engines, customer retention is ~97% (with effectively zero competitive churn on modern versions), creating a long-term, predictable, high-cash-conversion annuity-like business model.

How the Business Makes Money

Alfa operates a hybrid enterprise SaaS model divided into three core revenue streams:

Subscription & Cloud Hosting (~35% of revenue and growing)

This is a high-margin recurring SaaS fee business for software access, Alfa Cloud infrastructure hosting, maintenance, and ongoing upgrades.

It’s priced primarily on portfolio volume and active contract counts managed on the platform (rather than per-seat licensing).

This structure directly indexes Alfa’s recurring revenue to customer asset growth and insulates the company from seat-reduction automation.

Delivery Services (~50% of revenue)

The largest chunk, for now, comes from the implementation, systems integration, data migration, and project management.

Asset finance platforms take 1 to 2+ years to implement across complex regulatory jurisdictions and asset classes (especially true in the EU).

Alfa utilizes its own onshore consultants to onboard clients, billable on time-and-materials or milestone schedules. Post go-live, delivery continues generating recurring services revenue via multi-country rollouts and major module additions.

Software Engineering (~15% of revenue)

On the side, Alfa delivers chargeable development fees for bespoke customer modifications, regulatory enhancements, and client-requested roadmap features.

Over time, these enhancements are incorporated into the more standard core product modules (e.g., syndications, fleet management, wholesale originations), which are then cross-sold across the wider customer base.

Key Takeaways and Insights

The discussion is a continuation of our auto parts and services research, which seems to be the theme of these last two months. We are constantly diving into all parts of the business, expanding on our Copart bay understanding, Carvana unit economics, and insurance dynamics of Credit Acceptance.

Note: On this last one, as we’ve been tracking Admiral for their auto coverage since COVID. Maybe that should be a post.

This was one of the tangets from our previous SaaSpolcaypse themed research in companies like Monday, Atlassian, CMG, etc.

For starters, it’s easier to visualize this world if you can see it side by side. Here is how the three companies compare, giving you a baseline frame of reference.
